Ready to Play?

To begin playing you will need to create a user name and provide an email address.

Do not forget to provide a valid email address. Otherwise your VCA Results Report and Leadership Mail may be mailed to someone else or lost in cyberspace.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1:
After entering the game, begin with the deck of cards that will appear on the left side of the page. Each card has one core value labeled on it. You will be asked to sort them into five distinct piles from "Extremely Valued" to "No Value". Your emphasis should be placed on those that are "Extremely Valued" to you personally. You must have 18 values within your Extremely Valued stack before you will be prompted to continue.
Step 2:
Once you have sorted through the deck and have determined which of these values are “Extremely Valued” to you, the game will eliminate the other lesser personal values. Now you may sort the remaining values between the five different stacks from “Extremely Valued” to “No Value ” again emphasizing those that are truly “Extremely Valued” to you personally. You must have 6 values within your Extremely Valued stack before you will be prompted to continue.
Step 3:
Begin by sorting your “Extremely Valued” cards from 1 to 6 in terms of importance. It is critical that you test these in terms of importance against one another. (Example: say “curious” comes before “enthusiastic.” Does that fit or do you find that you are actually more enthusiastic and value that higher than curiosity? If that is the case then you would need to change their ranking. At the end of this step you should have 6 cards in rank order from the #1 "Extremely Valued" to the #6 in order of priority of highest to least.
Step 4:
The results page provides you with the values that you have chosen as the ‘Extremely Valued’ listed in order of priority. Now that you have your list of priority values it is important to craft what the meanings of these values are for you personally. It is not enough to know what your values are without giving time to defining their meanings. We have provided you with the option of obtaining a definition from Dictionary.com to help you. However, there is no right or wrong answers to the definition. Some people can claim to have similar values but see things differently because their individual interpretation is different. Once you have completed this form a report will be sent to your email reflecting the core values you have expressed and their priority of importance in your life.

How do I take the assessment?

Go to the "Ready to Play" blue box above. It will require you to create a user name and provide a valid email address to enter the game. This is required so that the system can send the final results to the email address you provided.

Once you have entered the game, you will consecutively click and drag each value card that appears on the left side of the page to the discard categories that range from " Extremely Valued " to " No Value " to the right of that pile. It is important to sort them evenly into five distinct piles as they relate to you and the degree of value that you attribute to them. Your emphasis should be focused on those that are " Extremely Valued " to you personally. The initial page will not allow more than 18 values under any heading. Only after you have sorted all of the cards will you be prompted to move onto the next step . For step - by - step instructions see above.

Why are values important?

Values ultimately guide our behavior. By spending time understanding and isolating our core values, we are better prepared to handle relationships, difficult situations and decisions.

Where do Values Come From?

From the time we are born we are imprinted with values: Family, Religious, Cultural, Group, and Government. Values may harmonize in their similarities or collide as they are radically opposed to one another.

Most of us have a pretty good sense of our personal value system. Unfortunately many people cannot specify what their core values are in order of priority. If you want to lead, you must be crystal clear about each value and what it means to you and how they affect those around you. This value clarification activity will help you sort through a wide variety of values. To fully benefit you must reach down to your core when thinking about what is important to you.

It will help to ask big questions to recognize if you can find a situation where your values or their priority may change due to circumstances. It is not for others to judge so do not pick answers that you believe others would claim are important. This is a tool to learn more about yourself and how you operate. Be honest with yourself and your responses. Sometimes we do not like what we secretly perceive but that does not make it any less significant in mastering how our values drive the way we interact with the world.

How do I discover what are my values?

This activity will guide you to prioritize 84 values from what you value most to what you value least. Participating in the mental activity begins your own journey of bringing clarity in your life around your core values. You will be able to effectively construct better and faster decisions. An unexpected subsequent benefit will be when you find yourself spending more time on the most fulfilling parts of living.

This is not an assessment tool like Meyer - Briggs where you discover things you did not know about yourself. This provides an approach for you and those in your organization, family, and association to obtain greater clarity and self - awareness. It takes your active engagement. The effective results produced depend solely on the amount of effort you put into the activity.

How long does it take?

On average the activity takes less than 30 minutes. There are no definitions included with each value and you may find yourself wishing we had provided them. This would however significantly detract from the purpose of the activity. It is your personal meaning of the intrinsic value that is consequential not a predefined dictation of meaning or group consensus. Life is about making choices and living by your own definitions.

What happens after I take the assessment?

Upon completion of the activity, you will receive an 8 page report that provides relevant considerations about the role values play in your life. Most importantly, one page will be a list of your 6 core values and their definitions. We suggest that you keep this single page posted up and direct duplicate copies to those people that are most significant to you.
